It was with much consternation that I assembled my list of skills. It is by no means a list lacking in life experience, but to be fair to myself, a lot of what I can do is based on things I learned x-many years ago but have not really put in the practice since then.
I can:
- Ride a horse, from stop to walk, trot, canter and the gallop, then back to stop. I know how to hold on when they jump and what to do if they decide to roll (which is not much, actually)
- I have a good memory for faces (but sadly, not for names)
- I am an excellent whistler
- I can train a dog to obey easy commands
- I can shoot a rifle (badly)
How did you go with yours? Anything on your list that surprised you? Anything that really didn’t? Do you remember how you got them? Are you happy with the skills you have?
These are…well, they’re my skills and I like them. I was taught to ride by my Dad. He’s the guy who taught me how to shoot a rifle too. Training a dog I learned by experience and the whistling I learned just by imitation. I have no idea where the memory comes from, but it’s useful to have, especially at parties. But I want more, many more. In fact, I want so many I may have to start harvesting the rich, creamy skills from other people.
Because if you ask other people, I’m pretty damn sure they have a skill you want. Although people you hate probably have some amazing skill you covet, it’s probably best to try asking someone you really like.
Which leads us to Week Two.

I can…
- edge lenses for glasses by hand.
- use a mini welding/soldering torch.
- calculate corrective prism.
- split wood.
- operate a transfer hoist.
- edit html and css.
- read sheet music.
- sing in tune.
- edit video.
- read/write/speak Indonesian.
- pull a beer.
Admittedly it’s been years since I’ve used some of these skills, it’s nice to remember I have them though.

i am late on this, but i liked it so i did it!
here’s some stuff that i can do:
- handwrite a killer letter and even mail it

- make some steller vegan stew without looking at a recipe
- put my hands all the way on the floor when i try to touch my toes
